Created a new project in SmileBASIC last night, and started fiddling about with a swirly background effect.

So, I see that CSS has finally evolved enough that simple subtractions are now actually doable. About smegging time!!

Let's create a classic retro effect. Flames! As with all of these tutorials, you can hit F5 at pretty much any step of the process to see how the changes in code have impacted the program.

A decade is over, and what have I done? 373 games, created a new blogging script for here, rewritten the Socoder forum, started a few new sites and more! Oh, and a brain tumour! It's been a wild and crazy decade, and over the next few days I'll be looking back at the best (and worst) games from the decade. 2010 - BlitzMax 2011 - Touch Control 2012 - The Bad Year 2013 - Monkey-X 2014 - OUYA!! 2015 - The Gap Year 2016 - Forget-V 2017 - Cuddle Me 2018 - Ringing the Changes 2019 - Overl...

For the past few months, I've been back and forthing on a way to get this to look half-assed on the 3DS. The main issue is with the Starfield, vs the 3DS's LED "haze" (Or maybe that's because I'm using a Original 3DS as my Homebrew unit!?) The slow-to-react LED is causing really horrible "clarity" issues. When you moved, the stars turned to a dark grey whilst the screen tries to catch up. If you stopped, and it has time to draw them fully, they become hard and white. The constan...

(YouTube) Looks like some professors are starting to teach a crazy wild idea of coding a "Game-a-Week". Good luck to anyone tackling this.. But it's not sensible to keep yourself thinking in that mindset, though. After doing this for a decade, I find it VERY hard to work on anything longer, and I certainly wouldn't recommend it as a starting point in a career, nor would I suggest it's a good idea to be teaching and grading this sort of thing. It seems like it's a very dark road to...

Don't you love it when, after a recent Update, Windows always opens the browser up. You always expect the page it leads you to will be full of actual information about what the windows update just did. .. But, no. It never does. It's always the exact same generic "Windows Help" page that tell you absolutely nothing. After this morning's update, I could barely read the generic Windows Help page, because my laptop's screen was too dark. Hmm...
