During a moment of boredom, I wondered how long it'd take to remake my lovely Testcard Generator. I attempted it in Monkey, and realised it wouldn't work very well given that I can't save an image. Then I tried it in BlitzMax, but that wouldn't allow me to work with images bigger than the desktop. (My Laptop is 1366x768, and I wanted at least 1920x1080) In the end I opted for Blitz3D. Blitz3D lets me work in practically any resolution I can imagine, while scaling it nicely to fit on my screen. Lovely ...

SpikeDislike2 has just had a nice big update on the iOS AppStore, and I'm now thinking about what to add next, so I figured I'd make a nice rambling blog about it. That's what this is!! You can buy (URL "https://itunes.apple.com/app/id604867277">SpikeDislike2 in the AppStore)! It's nice and cheap, and full of lovely juicy stuff!

<img src="https://socoder.net/AGAWGold_128.png" style="float:right;"> AGameAWeek Gold takes a look at the games that I've previously released on this day in history. It's basically filler material! But that's ok, because it's usually a nice trip down memory lane.

A somewhat simple remake, this week, as I couldn't even be bothered to add anything new into the mix. To be honest, this is one of those "Desperately trying to keep up a rate of AGameAWeek" games! It's fun, though, and now works lovely on an Android device (assuming your Android device of choice plays nicely with it!)

Googling for yourself rarely comes up with anything quite as fun as this! It seems that YouTuber "Chaoticlaw" (and/or "YetAnotherLaw") has decided to start a series of "Let's Play" videos aimed right at me, and my games!! (URL "https://bit.ly/ZT4hCZ">Play JNK : Playlist) Each week, Chaoticlaw plucks a random game from my archive, and gives it a play! He's also concurrently playing through Frogatto, Metroid Fusion and FTL. Assuming he only picks the cream of the crop, I'd say he could probably ...

23rd April 2013
In a change to our regularly scheduled April-Project, I've decided to stop pulling my hair out, and instead do something different. Grrr.. What we're left with, however, is a nice happy little game for up to four players, so that's nice.

<img src="https://socoder.net/AGAWGold_256.png" style="float:left;"> AGameAWeek Gold looks back on the history of my huge Jayenkai Archive. Each day, we trawl through the archive to find games which have been previously released on this day in history. Some days, there are no games. Other days there are oddball crazy quickly cobbled together gameplay experiments. And then, some days, there are real gold games. The games that stay with you, and can be just as enjoyable many years later.

Get used to seeing this, as you're going to see a lot of it. The other day I asked for opinions on what April might bring. Three people chipped up. One was over at Curly's World of Freeware, where Tormuse suggested I should go with the Word Games. Second, @moshboy suggested I should go with an unplanned stream of oddities. Oooh, a Tie!! Third was the deciding vote. And worryingly it didn't even come from the internet. Instead, My Mum suggested I should carry on doing Stringy Things....

Last week, one of my quickly cobbled together test tunes for JMTrackr was the old Manic Miner ingame music. If you download JMtrackr, you'll find it in the Retro folder. I created it quickly, made a little mp3 of it in random mode, and plopped it up on Socoder. People seemed to fall in love with the idea of me making a Manic Miner clone, and over the course of the past few days, that's escalated somewhat.. People really seem to want me to make a Manic Miner type thing.

Alrighty, time to buckle down and get a new collection started. It's actually been quite a while since I last did something like this, but 2010's Advent Collection kinda counts. The idea is simple. I write tiny versions of bigger games, keep them as short and sweet (and playable!) as possible, and cram them all together into a nice little bundle.

<img src="https://socoder.net/AGAWGold_128.png" style="float:right;"> Today, we take a trip to something eerily similar to something I recently did! Five years ago I had my first J2ME compatible mobile phone. A Samsung U600 is actually a remarkably nice phone. Five years later, the phone is still in a lovely condition, and is in regular use by my Mum, who now only accidentally hits the incredibly sensitive call button once every week or so! It's a great little phone, and it's nice and neat and...

As we continue our trip down memory lane, I'm starting to head off into odd new directions. This week, I'm remaking a game that I made for DS, but never got around to doing a proper fully fledged Windows edition of. Obviously, though, a game full of Sprite-Rips isn't going to cut it in Apple's AppStore. .. Actually, given how fucking often those things somehow manage to get approved, I probably could, but let's not chance it! Instead of ripping old sprites from Arcade Classics, I'...

AppStore is a wonderful place. For the first time, I've actually made some money out of my games!! Well done, Apple, on creating a wonderful ecosystem for indie devs. ... When I went to add an AGameAWeek Gold function to my Archive's Admin page, I purposely decided not to add any sort of "Look Ahead" function. I knew it'd be as much fun for me, as it is for you, to find out what today's AGameAWeek Gold is! Just a week in, and I'm finding myself waking up in the morning just to click to my admin page, to see if we've got a good game today!! Today's is awesome! Today's was worth wak...

Last night I was asked how I got Monkey to do all the things that I managed to make it do. I tried to describe it as best as I could, but was already wrapped up in bed, trying to remember it all, whilst only holding an iPad! Not an easy job. I suggested to (URL "https://twitter.com/retrorusty">@RetroRusty) that he waits until the morning, when I can better write a nice big (BIG) waffling (WAFFLING!) blog-post about it all. .. This be that!

The Amiga was nearing the end of its life cycle and my local Game store was slowly getting rid of its Amiga stuff. It was sad to find all your favourite games crammed into that little corner of the store where only the geekiest kids would huddle. Then one day, I spotted a bright blue stripy box. "Blitz 2.0!??? Oooh! I'd been using AMOS ever since I got it free on an Amiga Format coverdisk, but this was finally a chance to buy a fully fledged programming language. I whipped it up. .. I say that. ...

It's our latest regular feature! Hurray! Each month, I'll spend about five minutes doodling some stupid pixellated artwork, then scale it up to insane proportions, and slap it on the internet for all to see. If you like the chunky, heavily pixellated, oversized desktop images, you might like to use these as your system/devices wallpaper. Oh, what fun. This month, an obvious choice! SpikeDislike2 is just a few days away, so here's a lovely big wallpaper for your system of choice. <a h...

You're probably wondering, by now, with all this wonderful "Monkey" stuff that I've been banging on about for the past month, where the heck my iOS offerings are. Well, while it's true that Monkey does indeed make the coding a heck of a lot easier, there's still another matter to attend to. The dreaded "iTunes Connect" area! ARGH!!!! You've probably read enough of my rants to know that iDev isn't easy. There are licenses to deal with. "Provision" codes, Certificates, all manner of stupid fiddly thing...

Oh my god!!! Are you kidding me?! Hey, Nintendo, take a look at the title of this website. Guess what I'm doing.. Single-handedly, too, I might add. You're a company. You're a BIG company. Why in the name of hell does it take you SEVEN MONTHS to bring Animal Crossing 3DS to Europe? Japan : November 8, 2012 Europe : June 14, 2013 That can't be right!?! It just CAN'T be! There's no way it would take you that long to translate it all. You've got TEAMS who specialise in that sort of thing....

I'm at odds over this one. The first possible launch date is Feb 23rd. Feb 23rd is my birthday, and for the last two years, has also been SpikeDislike=FREE Day on iOS. It'd be nice to have SpikeDislike2 Day on the same day, but then I'd also need to get it onto the AppStore by that date, and ... that's a wee bit tricky! It'd mean I'd have to get the iOS App submitted by around about this time next week, and .. yikes. that's cutting it a bit close, especially considering I...

So, here we go again. We're up to Year 5, and hopefully we'll get a full year out of it, this year (nnngh). With Monkey, we get a chance to go back over our previous games, and remake them for a new audience, with iOS, Android and Browser based versions. I expect this will prove to be an exciting year. Given that we can play at showing off, what games do you think would work best, and adapt well to the new touchy/mouse based gameplay options? Or, what games could prove to be an obscure tricky challen...

I've been asked to chip in on this whole Kickstarter issue. If you follow me on Twitter (@Jayenkai) you'll have noticed my dislike of people spamming my twitter feed with constant requests for cash. It's annoying when you get into the busy periods, have your own cash issues to worry about, but still get bombarded by tens of hundreds of requests a day for things that don't yet exist. As a cash strapped indie dev, I'm in exactly the same situation as most of these guys, with the simple ...

So, my new iPod Touch Retina Wide/Long has finally turned up, and I instantly realized something I previously hadn't thought about. If you've been following AGameAWeek for the past few years, you'll have noticed the occasional blip, where I've mentioned having a repeating neck cramp, with accompanying migraines. These have gotten steadily worse, up until early March 2012, when I was curled over the toilet bowl, throwing up a worryingly black goo of sorts. Enough was enough! An ambulance was called, and after my blood pressure failed to register (too high!?) I was whizzed off to Bolton general where they continued to test...
