DevelopmentsHow long have I been coding NeonPlat Adventures 2? Because last night I only just got around to adding moving platforms, and that was one of the first thing I wanted to add to the thing. Grrrr. All this OUYA-Recompile stuff is certainly taking it's toll on getting the newer things done. Other things I wanted to do this year include getting an online scoreboard system working, making a new version of The Gear That Works, and of course making a new Advent Collexion, as well as g...Views 31, Upvotes 8

DevelopmentsNPA2 is now NPCA, as it finally finds a proper title, "NeonPlat's Cosmic Adventure". I spent about 5 or 6 hours trying out various programs desperate to find a nice way to get a properly designed logo that would curve around the edge of the planet. In the end, I did what I usually did, and opted to just do the bloomin' thing myself. Ingredients 1. (URL "https://blitzmax.com">BlitzMax) 2. DevelopmentsThe first of my games finally passed through PlayJam/GameStick review, yesterday. (Good to know that ONLY took 5 days, even though I was on "the fast track"!! Compare that to the fact that OUYA's reviewed all 5 of the games I've so far uploaded!) A very thorough review, where the only complaints were as follows. 1. If you pause the game, go into the menu, turn off the music, then turn it back on, it doesn't actually restart until you've quit the game. This has been a "feat...Views 24, Upvotes 6

DevelopmentsYesterday's task was to get basically collectables, items, that kind of thing to work properly. I haven't yet added the whole lot, but thought that one useful "collectable" might be a checkpoint. DevelopmentsDidn't get an awful lot of stuff done, yesterday. I attempted to code, but leftover migraine seemed to be hammering away. I find that my migraines come in waves.. They usually last over the course of about 3 days, with days 1 and 3 being the worst, and day 2 being the eye of the storm. A calm, easy to cope with, day. Yesterday was Day 3, and as such I ended up sitting on the couch, reading Twitter and not getting an awful lot done. ( src="https://vine.co/v/edT1ujmI7uW/embed/...Views 75, Upvotes 7

DevelopmentsComplications occasionally crop up as you're developing a game. The current complication is one of those "Everything NOW!!" issues. See, I'd like to get my character's movement to work, and ensure my screen scrolling works as it oughta. I've got left and right movement in, as that's pretty easy, but jumping requires that the ground collision is working properly. That means I need to stop working on the character movement, and switch to working on the tilemap collision detection,...Views 26, Upvotes 7

DevelopmentsDrawing silly pixelart characters is one thing. Having to animate a horse!? That's a whole other thing!!! Over the past week, I've animated a cat, a dog, and now a horse, too. I'll admit that, having animated the horse and got it into the engine, I then closed the laptop and opted to play games for most of the rest of the day, instead. Animating really takes it out of you, even if it was only 6 entire frames of animation!! I just don't have the stamina for animating. It wea...Views 19, Upvotes 5

DevelopmentsYesterday, I finally got around to animating that cat and dog that I've been putting off for a good number of days. I knew what I had to draw, but .. Animating?! Eeek!! And so the poor cat and dog remained undrawn, until yesterday when I practically forced myself into doing it. And, I must admit, they turned out rather nice! Now I just have to decide on a nice background for them, draw some obstacles, and figure out the best scoring method. ( src="https://vine.co/v/erVZAOM5QU...Views 25, Upvotes 7

DevelopmentsYesterday my new NAS turned up. I bought a Western Digital "My Cloud", and instantly disabled the My Cloud gubbins. An NAS is enough. I don't leave the house enough to warrant external access! So it all got setup, and then I did some quick file-access tests. The thing is roughly 3 or 4 times faster than my previous Buffalo Linkstation is, so it should make backing up of files a lot quicker, as well as those occasions when I copy a folder from the PC to the NAS, then to the Ma...Views 39, Upvotes 14

Well, @Jayenkai , I've always supported you in the past. And I warned you focusing on piracy would turn you into something untenable.
Point one : I'm NOT focussed on the "Piracy"
I'm focussed on the twat that took my game, and uploaded it to Amazon, then tried to make a profit from it.
That, to me, is a million times worse than anyone who simply finds the game online and downloads it.
That's not just taking something, that's taking something then trying to profit from someone else's hard work...

DevelopmentsWell it's about sodding time!!! After just over a week and a half, Invisible Munky 2's finally gotten through Apple Review, and is now available on the AppStore. Unfortunately, for some bizarre reason that I've not yet tracked down, the "Promo Codes" button appears to be completely missing from iTunesConnect. For this game, I was hoping to dish out a few promo codes to folk with different devices, to ensure the game runs as it oughta on those iPhings. Due to my lack of ability...Views 22, Upvotes 7

DevelopmentsA somewhat eventful day, yesterday, but one that took WAY too long!! As I finished off the last of the levels, and got the game working toa moderately lovely standard, I figured I might as well start throwing bits and pieces into iTunes. I've still got a number of days until Invisible Munky (hopefully) passes AppleReview, so I can relax and take my time with all the iTunesConnect gubbins. Starting with the the description, the screenshots, the icon, I continued on and decided to ...Views 24, Upvotes 7

Twitter RantThis morning, I'm battling with Twitter. A short while ago, Twitter introduced a new "Easy to use!" way to reply to things, which is less messy and leaves more space for your reply. Essentially, the "New Reply" strips away everybody's @names, leaving just a single link back to the previous post. In many ways, this is a nice thing, as when you're in the middle of a conversation with 5 or 6 people, it can typically leave about 3 characters for your reply to fit in!! But there are ...Views 29, Upvotes 6

DevelopmentsYesterday I decided to try out something a little unusual for me. I attempted THREE DEE!!! Not "proper" 3D, of course. I'm too lazy for that! Instead, I took the 2D game engine, added a Skew function to tilt everything at an angle, then plonked the standard graphics over the top. I wasn't expecting the result to be playable, but oddly enough, it's absolutely 100% normal. In fact, since the engine sticks to the original 2D principles, the game's entirely playable like this, and...Views 28, Upvotes 9

DevelopmentsYesterday, someone new registered on my home village's website (LittleLever.info) They, of course, instantly forgot their password, so used the "I forgot my password" button to find it out. At this point I should probably explain why I've mentioned this..! About a year ago, the original owner of LittleLever.info gave up paying for a site that never had any visitors. He stopped payments, and the site fell into disrepair before eventually getting pulled down completely. At this...Views 181, Upvotes 21

DevelopmentsYesterday, I took the phrase "Sleepy Sunday" and worked the heck out it. My cat woke me up at 6:15am, and I managed to stay mostly awake until just after 9, when I realised I was too tired to code, and instead went for a nap.. .. A long nap!! I also had a second nap later in the day, too. Ooops! I suppose when you have little/nothing else to do, especially on a Sunday, that there's no harm in having a short nap. But when you have TWO naps, and they're not exactly short ones, y...Views 25, Upvotes 6

DevelopmentsNot a lot of coding got done, yesterday. I continued to fiddle with the new sprites, and got enemies spawning in the level, but then I started thinking about iOS again. For the past year I've been focussing on OUYA. I've been making all my games controller happy, and as a result, have been neglecting touchscreen controls. I'm not sure why, probably all the AppleWatch stuff that's currently flooding my Twitter feed, but I'm finding myself somewhat nostalgic for the times that I s...Views 92, Upvotes 6

Things I should be doing.
1. A new Alien Deathmatch
2. A new RetroRaider
3. A new JNKPlat
4. That space-platformer-shooter thing
5. YBox Drops
6. SpikeDislike3
Each and every one is too large for a Weekly timescale, and as such, I've not started ANYTHING!
They're all random unstarted ideas, waiting for "just the right time", but at the rate of AGameAWeek, there's never really going to be time to get around to them.
Heck, I was supposed to do JNKPlat 2 years ago! I started it for the Xmas speci...

Currently on my list of ideas, I have...
1. A kind of space shooter style platformer.
2. A redux of YBox Yahtzee from the Alpha Collexion
3. SpikeDislike3
There's also a few other ideas bubbling away, in my head.
The main problem I'm having, is getting started on any, because I know that whichever I choose to start on, will more than likely take more than a week to complete.
As such, I've kinda been sitting here all week going "well, what else could I do...?" and not actually getting ANYTHING started....

As I sit here trying to code this week's AGameAWeek, I'm struggling.
Not because I don't know what the game's supposed to be. I actually have most of the game planned out in my head, and I think it might be fun, but something else is butting in.
For some strange reason, I can't stop thinking about NeonPlat Adventures.
I'd like to make "Greenie's Communication Tower", but each time I open the code, I instead find myself thinking about the complexities of Platform World Generation, and how much fun I fo...
