Occasionally, I base games upon crazy bits of coding that seem fun to play with. Sometimes games can form from odd little artistic doodles that look strange and unusual. Other times, I'll start with a sound effect, or a piece of music, and allow it to fester away until a game has emerged. This week is different.. This week, the game's idea came solely from the stupid mock game title that randomly popped into my head. *shrugs* <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Alien_Spindome_20140603A_...

Forums are a bit of a dying artform, lately. Between Facebook and Twitter, the idea of having to signup to a specific site for a conversation, when you could equally have that conversation over Twitter is all a bit daft and unnecessary. What can I say, I'm a grumpy old geezer, who prefers things oldskool!! That's not to say I don't "get" Twitter. I use it a lot.. .. A LOT!! And it's great for quick responses, too. Ask a question, anything you want, and generally get an answer within about a minut...

This week sees our intrepid hero running around a house, capturing ghosts. In many ways, this is a bit of a departure from the intended game.... <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Platdude_in_The_Spirit_Collector_20140325A_thumb.png"> <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Platdude_in_The_Spirit_Collector_20140325B_thumb.png">

.. Sorry, I haven't suddenly added them. Instead, I've made this post in the hopes of starting a discussion on the feasibility of adding scoreboards to future AGameAWeek titles. It's something I've attempted in the past, and old versions of Microbes, Spider and others still kind-of, mostly, sort of work. But there's a few issues that are stopping me from integrating it into the current framework.

You wait months for a new AGameAWeek iOS game, and then two come along at once! Apologies that these weren't posted some time last week, but they've been sat in "Waiting for Review" status for AGES!! Much, much longer than the regular "7 days" wait.

It was somewhat inevitable that we'd have to revisit the world of SpikeDislike, and since the last game was released around about a year ago, I might as well treat us all to a brand new release! <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Spiky_Tower_20140304A_thumb.png"> <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Spiky_Tower_20140304B_thumb.png">

Welcome to the Top 13 AGameAWeek Games of 2013 No other Top-10 lists appear to want to give any of my games any recognition at all, which kinda sucks since I've made a whole bunch of REALLY great games, this year! I don't even get a token "Made a shitload of games, this year" mention! Sucks!! So, sod them all, I'll make my own Top-10 list. And it'll be all my games, and I'll even add a few more just to make it a bit more 2013 relevant. That'll show 'em!! Mwa-ha-haaa!!!

NeonPlat Extreme sees most of the elements of the NeonPlat series of games, all cobbled together into one great big lump sum. There's lots of fun little things to play around with, and for the most part it's the same single-screen platforming action you've come to expect. The aim for December is to make a nice little test version of JNKPlat, and see what devices it does, or doesn't work well on. I'm going to try my best to make Touchscreen controls work with the game, but after years of trying various methods, that's probably not going to work out. Either way, no matter what happens, by the end of the month there'll be a brand new mini-adventure for Platdude, in keeping with his Puzzle/Platform stylings. The Windows and OUYA editions should be fine, but Android iOS contro...

Last March I was taken into hospital with a brain tumor. (URL "https://AGameAWeek.com/2012/08/home-again-home-again-jiggity-jig/">There's a lengthy blog about that, here.) Since then, although I'm "mentally" fine, I'm all sorts of physically screwed up! I can barely stand in one spot without wobbling about, and trying to have a short stroll outside is somewhat chaotic. In general I tend to stumble around, and can barely look around me, so have to always have someone with me incase I randomly wand...

Neovember is a month in which I'm taking the engine from NeonPlat Raw, and playing about with it to create a bunch of different gameplay styles. Once we're done, I'll bundle everything back into a package, and pop it up on all the different systems. This week's experimental gameplay mode comes courtesy of Blockman. Not the hungry-pellet-eating version of Blockman, the classic platforming/collection form. You start the game as you normally would, with you, some balls, and some bad guys. There's also a...

Yet again, my lack of forward planning has resulted in me coding myself into an awkward corner. This time with NeonPlat. NeonPlat 1 & 2 occurred on the PC. NeoPlat exists on the DS and is features entirely different gameplay mechanics. NeonPlat Adventures takes things even further! NeonPlat Classic is on iOS and uses Tilt controls.. And then there's NeonPlat Raw on Android/Windows which uses touch/key controls, but has no moving platforms. There's a whole lot of variety for a single game! I have,...

Over the years, @Spinal_Cord has continued to perfect the stylings of the top-down maze genre. Taking his cues from an old C64 game he once played, Sensitive, he has created a whole host of variations on the theme over the course of his time doing game-dev. His latest effort in this genre sees him using the Monkey language, along with some lovely simple 2D commands, to generate a faux-3D look, which wouldn't look out of place in an old-school tech, or scene music demo.

I wanted to have made a nice big super-sized sequel, this week, but I got sidetracked. For starters, I played a lot of Animal Crossing, so there's that!! But that wasn't all, as this week's game took an alarming amount of time to settle into a groove.
