A slight issue with the vertical scrolling is that a lot of the graphics in NeonPlat rely on thin lines. Most of the time, this isn't a problem, but when it's all scrolling up and down with pixel precision, there's a ludicrous amount of flickering going on, and it's somewhat unpleasant on the eyes. I'm going to have to (somehow!) put a stop to that, but .. hmmm.. So many devices, so many pixel density's, and so many screen resolutions. I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to mana...

Twitter Rant

This morning, I'm battling with Twitter. A short while ago, Twitter introduced a new "Easy to use!" way to reply to things, which is less messy and leaves more space for your reply. Essentially, the "New Reply" strips away everybody's @names, leaving just a single link back to the previous post. In many ways, this is a nice thing, as when you're in the middle of a conversation with 5 or 6 people, it can typically leave about 3 characters for your reply to fit in!! But there are ...

Yesterday I started playing about with all the different gameplay styles that'll make up the majority of the levels in SpikeDislike3. If you're keeping track, you'll remember that WAY WAY way way way back in (URL "https://AGameAWeek.com/GameList.php?ShowJust=221">SpikeDislike 1) (Made in 2011, still works on most/all iOS devices!) there was a nice little Challenge mode to keep you entertained. Unfortunately, it didn't have a whole lot of levels. 36 levels were more or less all...

I spent a lot of yesterday faffing about with the "Start" screen of SpikeDislike3. At first I intended to have a giant spike be in the center of the screen, and in fact that's what happened for quite a while, but .. I'm not sure why, but I decided to switch to circles instead. Reusing my generic stripy circle from my basic menu meant I didn't have to redraw anything, and the new "Start" screen looks rather neat. .. or at least, for something I've done, it does! I spent some t...

Yesterday I settled into "Music Mode", where I can generally whip out an AL CHOON for whatever purpose. Unfortunately, after a good two hours of twiddling dials and buttons in Korg Gadget (iPad only) I came out with absolutely nothing decent whatsoever. Ashamed that I'd wasted a good amount of time pretty much doing nothing, I instead decided to load up some old Choons, and see if they worked within the new SpikeDislike3 engine. Good news! SpikeDislike3 will have music!! On t...

After an unscheduled break, we're back with a brand new "Platdude In" title, this time driving around a racetrack in a go kart! It's almost as if I've spent the past few weeks doing nothing but playing Mario Kart 8!!! <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Platdude_in_A_Go_Kart_20140721A_thumb.png"> <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Platdude_in_A_Go_Kart_20140721B_thumb.png">

What would happen if someone in the past was given a list of modern day videogame titles? What kind of games would they imagine from far off in their future? And what sort of games would they create, on their retro-tastic 8-bit home computers!? It's time, once again, to step inside the Future Classics Time Vortex, and find out!! <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Future_Classics_-_1986_Edition_20140408A_thumb.png"> <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Future_Classics_-_1986_Edit...

A lovely little flying game, this week, as you take control of a friendly little chopper, and try to save all your pals. As you race about the landscape, you'll meet plenty of enemy aircraft, hellbent on stopping you. Attack, Defend, and Survive!!

This week we're going to be doing the first part of something that may or may not actually happen!! Since last year was Nintendo's Year of Luigi, the guys over at RetroRemakes have decided that this year oughta be the Year of Horace. I challenged site-admin RobF to attempt to create a different Horace game every month, and post it to OneGameAMonth. I'm not sure he's going to do it, if I'm honest. But the challenge was set, and although unspoken, I figured it would only be fair to challenge myself to t...

Welcome to the Top 13 AGameAWeek Games of 2013 No other Top-10 lists appear to want to give any of my games any recognition at all, which kinda sucks since I've made a whole bunch of REALLY great games, this year! I don't even get a token "Made a shitload of games, this year" mention! Sucks!! So, sod them all, I'll make my own Top-10 list. And it'll be all my games, and I'll even add a few more just to make it a bit more 2013 relevant. That'll show 'em!! Mwa-ha-haaa!!!

The internet is a place for trolls and complainers (like me!) who like to gripe at every opportunity. For the most part, we tend to ignore these types, which generally means that comments sections have become largely ignored. Here at AGameAWeek, the opposite has happened. There are apparently no trolls daring enough to even attempt to play my games! I seem to have scared most of them away. As a result, there are no trollers or complainers here, and since those are the types that make up the 99% of the ...

What's with the track?

BlastTrax was originally devised as a classic Retro-styled GrandPrix-like racing game, with weapons. You would drive through the course, shoot the other drivers, and make your way through to the end. I started work on the game, made a nice retro-styled GrandPrix racetrack, added a few little cars, and then.. .. And that was when (URL "https://www.foppygames.nl/">@FoppyGames) decided to launch his Retro-styled GrandPrix racing game. D'oh! True, min...

Thankyou for waiting patiently, as 95% of the internet inexplicably got to play this yesterday, before I posted it to my own website!! *sigh* Ah well, lessons learned, must organise things a wee bit better in future. Doing worldwide launches at 10 in the morning, isn't all that easy! Anyhoo, this one's a corker, so it's well worth the wait!

BlastTrax has passed iOS Review, so all is looking good for it's target August 27th release date. Since the game is now up on the AppStore, but currently locked tight until the release date, I thought I'd have a bit of fun with it, so I posted the following challenge onto Twitter. I've suffered with migraines my whole life, so whenever one attacks, I can usually get rid of it by about mid-afternoon. The basic motions are as follows. Step 1. Paracetamol. Nothing stronger, since I've taught my body to control the migraines so well. Plus, if I DO take anything stronger, bad head waveyness occurs!! Step 2. Dark Room. A general tip from anyone. Lights out. Curtains shut. Close out the world. Step 3. Comedy. This one's a little unorthodox, I'll give you tha...

54 games. Last year I only managed about 30-odd, so I think that's pretty good going. Sure, it might not have truely actually been A Game "Per" Week, but I did at least keep the ratio up. If I hadn't taken the time out to build the framework, I probably would've actually achieved the target a little better The stats show I was pretty much on top of things up until that point, but then things got slower and slower until my buffer zone was all dried up. Anyhoo, this is a nice big lengthy re...

Nothing magical, this week, more a game that was started but didn't really go anywhere. If I had enough time this week, I'd have scrapped it and started something else, but it's been a bit of a tight week, time wise.. So.. If you've been keeping track, you'll have probably noticed an ever increasing number in the folders of my games. These are the weeks of the Wednesday Workshop, and as you trace through my games, you'll see a whole lot of matches between the WW and the game's basic idea. WW is fantastic for ideas, but sometimes things don't quite work out. Take this image, from a basic engine, all the way back in week #142.. (That's 76 weeks ago!)
