Today I'm battling the forces of evil.
Microsoft have "updated" my system so that all my games now run at about 1/3rd their normal speed.
Thanks, Microsoft! You're AWESOME!!!

1. I'm waiting for Puzzobomb to pop up on the App Store, assuming they like it, and let it up there!
2. NinjaDuck is slowly plodding away, but I have no idea what type of game it'll end up being.
I mean, I have a vague idea! Obviously it'll be a platformer! But other than that.. *shrugs*
3. I thought about Y-Box, and how that'd be a nice game to have on my iPhing.. Then I started juggling some sprites, built a nice set of gfx, but then couldn't be bothered to code anything.
4. I made a wall......

FAR too busy right now!
What i'm trying to do today is to make a simple little game.
If you've been following you'll know that I have some sort of oddball Bee game in mind, so I've shoved the bee, the particles and the background images in, I've got the basic movement sorted, and am trying to figure out how the game should work.
Slow work!

A nice slow paced shooter this week.
Poor old CPC Basic couldn't really handle bullet-hell type games.
Well, ok, maybe it could if you really really tried, and came up with a scrolling ascii grid of bullets, but for the most part it just wasn't happening.
Instead, Cassette 50 creators had to rely on other ideas. Like trying to kill you with your own desire to kill!!

Time to pick a new Jingle.
I'm thinking that Year 3 should be marked, slightly, by tweaking the intro jingle a little, so I've gathered together a handful, and popped them all here.

Sure, it might not have truely actually been A Game "Per" Week, but I did at least keep the ratio up.
If I hadn't taken the time out to build the framework, I probably would've actually achieved the target a little better
The stats show I was pretty much on top of things up until that point, but then things got slower and slower until my buffer zone was all dried up.

Authentic Kaizen ((URL "https://PixelProspector.com">pixelprospector.com), ideaman behind NeonPlat) has sent a few new game ideas. Some are short and sweet, but the most tempting one feels like it needs a little care and attention.
I feel like I want to do something with it, but am struggling to come up with a way to compress it into a week's worth of code.
I think, what I might actually do, is leave it a few weeks.
Once I hit the 52nd week of year 2, and another whole year's worth of games, I'll b...

Incase you hadn't heard already, I released my first iPhing game, last Wednesday night.
This week, I'm releasing the Win/Lin/Mac testbed version of the very same game.
Think of this as a promotional item, of sorts, but also as a "Let's try new things" ideas edition.

This week I've drawn a train, and some tracks, and am currently in the midst of desperately trying to get the train to behave upon said tracks.
So far, it's a stuggle!
Trying to get each carriage to turn at the right time, trying to account for the 30-odd track pieces that I've drawn, and trying not to make it look rubbish.

meh, what can you do!

It's probably due to the sweltering heat, but my mind's not been very active today, and I've been really slow at getting anything done.
I got quite a lot of Barry the Spelling Bee done, and then decided to do a little work on Cardagain. But, boy, that got messy.
First off, I tried playing a bit of title music.
That just plain didn't happen!! After 2 hours, I scrapped the idea of title music!
Next up, the menu got half complete, and I figured I should add load/save mechanism for tha...

There we go!
Using the buffers I mentioned earlier, and pasting 100*32x32 pixel sprites onto those buffers (32x3200 pixel buffers) I've created 8 completely independent reels, each with their own selection of 100 slots.
Drawing onto those reel buffers slows us down, and takes around about 2 or 3 seconds to do, so you wouldn't be doing that in realtime.. But once the reels buffers have been drawn, we can slam them up on the screen with pretty much no slowdown whatsoever.
Essentially, that'...

You could say that this week's been a bit of a cheat. An update isn't REALLY a whole new game.
But then, I also made <a href="https://AGameAWeek.com/?p=656">ScoreRack</a>, this week, too.. So it all evens out!

No matter, this week's been SUPER busy, what with it being the week I finally got a Mac.
As seen the other day, I re-released <a href="https://AGameAWeek.com/2010/05/8-brand-new-freeware-mac-games/">8 of my games for Mac</a>. It's not just Steam on Mac!!! You can play UFO246, too!
Today sees a couple of extra bonuses.

Oh, blimey, what happened to my game!?!
Playing about with super smashy explodey effects, led to the inevitable conclusion that enemy bullets would be completely un-noticable.
Dang..
So, rather than add any enemy, I stuck with the spinny things from the WarioWare game.
This in turn led to me making them move slowly towards you, and then it all went a bit chaotic from that point on.

Very rarely do I get feedback direct, other than from the few of you who seem to hang around here a lot, but there is feedback out there.. if you really hunt for it!
This past couple of weeks have, as per usual, been all about the Two-Button-Jump.
"OMG! Two!? WTF!" and so on. I can deal with those complaints, I've heard them many a time before, and even added the extra one-button rubbishy mode to help those who can't shut up about it.
It's annoying, but what the hey.

On Sunday we had a new bathroom fitted, during which time we discovered an old leak which had previously gone unnoticed. In what can only be described as "Water Timing" the leak decided to smash through part of our kitchen.

So, this week, we've been busy doing house destruction, removing part of the ceiling, and preparing to get a whole new one.
Although I've not really been doing too much towards it, the ceiling coming down isn't the big job, that's coming soon when we put the new one up.. It ...
