Am I still doing that 90 minute thing?!
*shrugs*
Seems to have faded out a bit. Oh well, no matter..
Today I spent about 2 hours working on this.

My super copyright infringing retro game is back!
Take one part Pitfall, one part Tomb Raider, and mix in a little Indiana Jones, and this probably wouldn't be the first thing that springs to mind.
Never the less...

#200!!! Blog
13th July 2010
Is it really 200, already?! Blimey!

The quickly made retrospective "look at what you've done" post..

I started writing games as a kid, went through school making silly games, and ended up with not-much-at-all to show for it.

Not quite the 200 I was hoping for when I asked for levels the other week.
Only Shadow1w2 sent any in
Still, Shadow1w2 sent us 10 whole new fun mean levels to play with.
Meanwhile, I've been so busy with everything else that I hadn't much time to make any, so you'll have to make do with only 7 little levels that I made this morning! eek!
In addition, there's a fun new tile to play with. (only 1, mind.... and I struggled to ...

This weekend I'm planning on doing a nice big happy writeup about Year 2.
I'll be hopping through and replaying all my year's games, and jotting down little should/shouldn't's about each one. I might even take the time to record a few seconds of each and then build up a nice big Year-2 Video.
That'd be nice!!
Meanwhile, I can't sit still, and have already begun a new'ish game.

54 games. Last year I only managed about 30-odd, so I think that's pretty good going.
Sure, it might not have truely actually been A Game "Per" Week, but I did at least keep the ratio up.
If I hadn't taken the time out to build the framework, I probably would've actually achieved the target a little better
The stats show I was pretty much on top of things up until that point, but then things got slower and slower until my buffer zone was all dried up.
Anyhoo, this is a n...

Just a nice quick update of things that are/aren't happening...
1. Arcade Slots on the iPhings is almost at a point where I could release the JNKPlat Edition. I'm not sure if I want to release that, just yet, or wait until I've finished up the rest of it... Either way JNKPlat Edition will be the demo, and the rest will be the pay-for.
2. NeoPlatDS is at around about 75%. I need to formulate a good "Game Progression" thing, and figure out where/when the levels will be starting/ending.

Over at <a href="https://battle.onego.ru/forum/showthread.php?p=459813">[Battle]Forum</a> (|edit| I think this forum's long gone |edit|) they're having a nice chat about JNKPlat2010, and, more significantly, the insanity that is Shadow1w2's MASSIVE 100th level.
It's a fantastic level, but they just can't quite fathom it.
I had a go, today.

Sod it. I love this logo!
I should be doing a year-long roundup thing, but I've not had much time, what with the whole Advent and stuff.
No matter, there's been some good, and plenty of bad, and that's what AGameAWeek's all about!

Since I'm going to be doing Cassette 50 for a while, we're not going to be needing the regular Suggestion Box for a while.
As a kind of replacement for those, then, I'll be thinking ahead, and wondering about the "larger" projects.
Obviously one of the new ones is going to be a new Platdude game.

Another day pondering about the should/shouldn't monkey issue.
Another day wondering if I shouldn't just be writing a game..
I should be focusing on the important bits, but instead, my minds contemplating what could be.
We're in March.

I enjoyed my Month Off!
I've written a lovely quickstart framework, I've built a game and a half, I've posted more Tube vids and Tweets in a month than any month previously, I've tried to keep up the blog, AND I even had time to relax!!

Today I'm focussing my blog on iOS trials and tribulations. The basic steps of designing a game when working with iOS.
These are pretty simple things, and should be apparent, but .. having played a fair number of iOS games.. they're not always done!
Note, this isn't really about my actual development, as such, more the train of thought that generates the end result.
In a future bloggy thing, I might focus more on the what/where, than the how/why that this does. Let me know if ...

Over a year and a half ago, I made a Music Framework thing to go in my BlitzMax framework.
It achieved a fairly modest passable amount of music, and was used in both JNKPlat2010 and NeonPlat2.
I stick in a few melodies, it goes twiddle-dee-dee, and out pops a bunch of pseudo random music.
yeay!

Today's long, long, long day of development was 100% iOS related.
Having put it off entirely yesterday, I figured I'd better port that level builder doohickey.
I opened TextEdit on the Mac, copied the level builder function from BlitzMax, and set about converting it, line by line, to something that XCode would compile for iOS.
800 lines of code, an estimate of "should only take a few hours, surely!" and then a completely exhausted Jay who just about managed to get the thing working...

Just finished the game, so I'm here to say *Thank you* for some real good entertainment.
A couple of things I noticed:
Loved the game concept, and the visual design is spot on for that kind of game. Unfortunately, sound doesn't work on Ubuntu 11.10.
It's a shame that the progress isn't properly recorded: The game should automatically offer me to play at the 'highest' levelset and the highest starting point I reached in my last session...
