I've never had to properly debug an Android device, before, so yesterday's attempts were new ground for me. Usually when one of my games break, I can easily repeat the break, and figure out exactly why it's happening, but feedback from PlayJam over my games crashing on their latest device, have had me somewhat baffled. There doesn't seem to be a specific point where they're crashing, or rather, there's no reason for them to be crashing where they are, as other Android devices carr...

Yesterday's task was to get basically collectables, items, that kind of thing to work properly. I haven't yet added the whole lot, but thought that one useful "collectable" might be a checkpoint. I didn't do a bloomin' thing, yesterday! I say that.. I'm pretty sure I did SOMETHING, I just can't remember what it was! It can't have been all that important, then... Hmm.. : *shrugs* It seems an entire day has passed me by. I watched a movie, (What We Did On Our Holiday) and listened to a lot of JPop for no real reason. I also watched episode 9 of Dark Matter, which had all manner of interesting things happen. But as for myself. Nope. Nothing to declare I'm afraid. ...

Not a very productive day, yesterday, if I'm honest. I continued to play about with that Lester&Ralph theme, but I'm hitting the same roadblock as the last time, with the Sheep Goes Right theme, in that the characters run at the same constant speed so the entire point of the Combo system is completely ruined. I'm not sure what I can add to mix it up, and am desperately playing with all manner of elements to see if I can find that one little thing that suddenly makes sense. Hmmm.....

Still working on getting SoCoder back to full strength, but things are slightly easier now that GoDaddy have finally uploaded that damned backup that I asked for, about 3 days ago. *tsk* Now it's a case of shuffling file about, and making some nice strengthy tweaks to the site. *sigh* So, last night I opened up SpikeDislike's code properly for the first time in about a week. Over the past week I've been battling server outages, and the whole Android issue, so I haven't really...

Yesterday I started a new theme. A road, some sand, some water, stars, moon and some boats. Yesterday, I had a day off... I was a lazy bugger, and did absolutely nothing of interest, whatsoever. A lazy day, lying on the couch, playing Words With Friends and complaining on Twitter about how there's no Countdown on TV because of the horses. I'm getting old, and set in my ways, and if there's no Countdown on, I get grumpy! (For those who don't know about the fantastic gameshow, (URL "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Countdown_%28game_show%29">here's the Wiki page).) So...

Yesterday I took some time to create a Choon to go along with the dark lava theme, and although it wasn't exactly what I aimed for, it does fit the gameplay reasonably well. Not a whole lot of news from yesterday, but that was mostly due to me not being in a coding mood. Instead, I did at least manage to create the following ALChoon. Yesterday, I took the phrase "Sleepy Sunday" and worked the heck out it. My cat woke me up at 6:15am, and I managed to stay mostly awake until just after 9, when I realised I was too tired to code, and instead went for a nap.. .. A long nap!! I also had a second nap later in the day, too. Ooops! I suppose when you have little/nothing else to do, especially on a Sunday, that there's no harm in having a short nap. But when you have TWO naps, and they're not exactly short ones, y...

<img src="https://socoder.net/AGAWGold_128.png" style="float:right;">AGameAWeek Gold is our occasional glance through the archive, to pluck out some of the great games that I've created over the many years that I've been doing this. Along the way we'll discover some great gems that I'd forgotten about, or occasionally the odd bit of garbage that I'm frankly happy to have forgot about! Today, we take a look at a strange little Pong game!

I don't give up, very often, but on this occasion, it's unfortunately going to happen to my big Month-Long project. I seem to have narrowed the problem down to the following issue. ... Wasn't hard enough! It seems that, nowadays, I can only tackle a project if it's got enough of a challenge attached. Either a game has to be coded in a stupidly small amount of time, or the game needs to have lots of new things required, to keep my interest held. <img src="https://socoder.net/uploads/1/RRDS_M...

I've suffered with migraines my whole life, so whenever one attacks, I can usually get rid of it by about mid-afternoon. The basic motions are as follows. Step 1. Paracetamol. Nothing stronger, since I've taught my body to control the migraines so well. Plus, if I DO take anything stronger, bad head waveyness occurs!! Step 2. Dark Room. A general tip from anyone. Lights out. Curtains shut. Close out the world. Step 3. Comedy. This one's a little unorthodox, I'll give you tha...

I've got a whole month to do a framework, so apparently that means I'm going to be a lazy git who does sod all, then crams the whole framework into the last day! .. Well, hopefully not, but I did manage to cram in a couple of hours of Burnout, yesterday! Been a long while since I sat and played a game for that long.

Today I've been continuing to fiddle about with all the framework's drawing methods. The engine seems rather fickle, and will sometimes do a bunch of big sprites, and other times do a buttload of tiny ones. I've currently got the settings to a nice middleground. It can handle quite a bit, so long as you don't give it mountains of giant sprites to contend with!! <a href="https://AGameAWeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/photo-1.png"><img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/wp-content/u...

In many ways, things are about the same as they were before, and that's exactly how Platdude likes them! Keen observers might notice the lack of lights and switches. The whole purpose of the lights was to limit what the player could s...

Part one of today's awesomeness is a huge update to last week's game. I was going to do a seperate game, but I've had no time, what with working on the music stuff all week. Dangit. And, wouldn't you know, I even forgot to make any music for this, too! d'oh! No matter, here's Box's Adventure (aka BadgeBox) version 2. There's not much Badge-Related additions in the game. There's an explosive version of the attraction badge, but you need to get both before it&#...

When I first started to think of "A game that uses Badges" the name "Dungeon Badges" stuck in my head, and slowly but surely evolved into Dungeon Badgers. Over the course of the week (during which I was finishing off Centipong 2) the idea had evolved to include a garden, a house, a cat, and of course.. mushrooms and... arrghh! A snake! Today's post is a brief description of the game that was in my head, before it got thrown out and replaced with an idea that could be drawn a wee bit quicker!

You know the words! and, so it doesn't feel left out.. The original remix from last February (2009), with a bit that's not from "Devil in the Dark", and is instead from "Elementary, My Dear Data" (I think), and that I couldn't be bothered to hunt down to cut the video from, so ended u...

Blimey, that got complex! <a href="https://socoder.net/uploads/1/blockmansGreatBigMenu.png"><img src="https://socoder.net/uploads/1/blockmansGreatBigMenu_thumb.png"></a> Starting with "World 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, 4-1, 5-1" I built a set of sideways Arcade menu start points. Then I added the old "J/K" gameplay options in the style of World 10-1 and World 25-1.. Although from 6-1 and after, the theme isn't predetermined, and it's just picking random themes each time! Each world conta...

The last time we tried Munky Blocks we had 1 munky and many blocks. Munky had to collect the blocks, piece them together to form coloured areas, and blammo, they vanished. This time, we only have one block. Munky needs to pick up that block, and place it on top of the red button, to open up the red exit, and then he can leave. A simple enough concept, but one that took so long to build I didn't really have time to build a decent set of levels. A shame. <a href="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/M...
