This week, I've been working on the game Penguin Parade.
This is a semi sequel to the game that appeared in Alpha Collexion, but in reality is more of a Lemmings clone.
Over the course of this week, I've built a sturdy engine, made a few "skills", and got a decent control method to work on gamepads. I've animated a penguin, and got a few GUI elements in place, and .. In general.. I've made a nice solid little game. (URL "https://AGameAWeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/img_2251.jpeg">&l...

DevelopmentsA whole lot of yesterday seemed to vanish just as much as the day before.. I now realise, of course, why this is.. I recently started playing the iOS game "Fallout Shelter", which is a spin-off of the Fallout franchise, in which you need to build, organise and maintain a fallout shelter. The game works a lot like Sim-Tower, and is "Free to Play", but not in a terribly horrific "F2P/IAP" style. It's fair, and it's nicely balanced. The IAPs are there if you want them, but skill ...Views 21, Upvotes 6

DevelopmentsLast night, I decided to open up my old projects. Over the past couple of years, my iOS releases reduced to practically nothing, yet I still built up an alarming number of games over the weeks. Hopefully with the new faster, more usable MacMini in place, I can keep up a better rate from here on, but last night I found myself digging through the archives, seeing what would and wouldn't be suitable for iOS. At which point, I stumbled upon (URL "https://AGameAWeek.com/GameList.php...Views 27, Upvotes 8

DevelopmentsNot much! Or, at least, nothing I can show off just yet. I'm struggling to design decent looking new themes, whilst trying to stay clear of repeating what was in SD2. Which is a lot.. Meaning I've made my job much much harder!!! Meanwhile, I'm still fiddling about with layers. They "sometimes" work, but occasionally get in the way of the raw gameplay, which is BAD!! Going to have to put a lot of planning into exactly what sort of foreground elements may or may not work for the...Views 8, Upvotes 4

DevelopmentsYesterday was spent fixing up little things in SpikeDislike3. I got Predetermined Layouts working, but still haven't bothered to implement any sort of collision detection! Still, you can now start a round, have it spawn the spikes in the same place, and then exit back to the menu. Having the spikes show up in the same place, is of course super important in SpikeDislike, as you learn the layouts of the level, and try not to die for ages and ages. I'll have to add a couple of ra...Views 20, Upvotes 7

DevelopmentsMy laptop's been running slow, sluggish, juddery and .. generally BAD, since some time yesterday, and as much as I hunt the system, I'm struggling to find the reason why. I think it might have something to do with Windows noticing the Mac on the network, and freaking out, thinking it's going to be replaced! .. Acting all slow and useless isn't going to get you extra loving, Windows! Learn how to show off your skills, and act like a proper computer!! Even as I type today's blo...Views 18, Upvotes 5

Invisible Munky is BACK!
It only took 10 years for Invisible Munky to re-appear*, and in that time, it's learned an excellent new skill.

<img src="https://socoder.net/AGAWGold_128.png" style="float:left;"> AGameAWeek Gold looks back at some of the best, and worst, games that have been previously released on this day in history.
Today's game from the archive is a lovely little arena battler, with lots of weapons and things to shoot!

Some days, there'll be something special.
Some days, there'll be utter garbage!
And on other days, there are no games at all!

As we continue our trip down memory lane, I'm starting to head off into odd new directions.
This week, I'm remaking a game that I made for DS, but never got around to doing a proper fully fledged Windows edition of.
Obviously, though, a game full of Sprite-Rips isn't going to cut it in Apple's AppStore. .. Actually, given how fucking often those things somehow manage to get approved, I probably could, but let's not chance it!
Instead of ripping old sprites from Arcade Classics, I'...

The Amiga was nearing the end of its life cycle and my local Game store was slowly getting rid of its Amiga stuff. It was sad to find all your favourite games crammed into that little corner of the store where only the geekiest kids would huddle.
Then one day, I spotted a bright blue stripy box.
"Blitz 2.0!???
Oooh!
I'd been using AMOS ever since I got it free on an Amiga Format coverdisk, but this was finally a chance to buy a fully fledged programming language.
I whipped it up.
.. I say that. ...

iOS Editions...

17th February 2013
You're probably wondering, by now, with all this wonderful "Monkey" stuff that I've been banging on about for the past month, where the heck my iOS offerings are.
Well, while it's true that Monkey does indeed make the coding a heck of a lot easier, there's still another matter to attend to.
The dreaded "iTunes Connect" area! ARGH!!!!
You've probably read enough of my rants to know that iDev isn't easy.
There are licenses to deal with. "Provision" codes, Certificates, all manner of stupid fiddly thing...
