Alright, time to start on the next iOS project.
Over the past year I've started around about 500,000 iOS games, and released 6.
You're probably wondering WTF happened to the rest of 'em.

Add a simple pause menu.
That was task number one, this morning, on a 5 item tasklist.
The stupid menu took 5 hours!
FIVE!!

Just a nice quick update of things that are/aren't happening...
1. Arcade Slots on the iPhings is almost at a point where I could release the JNKPlat Edition. I'm not sure if I want to release that, just yet, or wait until I've finished up the rest of it... Either way JNKPlat Edition will be the demo, and the rest will be the pay-for.
2. NeoPlatDS is at around about 75%. I need to formulate a good "Game Progression" thing, and figure out where/when the levels will be starting/ending.

#200!!! Blog
13th July 2010
Is it really 200, already?! Blimey!

The quickly made retrospective "look at what you've done" post..

I started writing games as a kid, went through school making silly games, and ended up with not-much-at-all to show for it.

There we go!
Using the buffers I mentioned earlier, and pasting 100*32x32 pixel sprites onto those buffers (32x3200 pixel buffers) I've created 8 completely independent reels, each with their own selection of 100 slots.
Drawing onto those reel buffers slows us down, and takes around about 2 or 3 seconds to do, so you wouldn't be doing that in realtime.. But once the reels buffers have been drawn, we can slam them up on the screen with pretty much no slowdown whatsoever.
Essentiall...

Very rarely do I get feedback direct, other than from the few of you who seem to hang around here a lot, but there is feedback out there.. if you really hunt for it!
This past couple of weeks have, as per usual, been all about the Two-Button-Jump.
"OMG! Two!? WTF!" and so on. I can deal with those complaints, I've heard them many a time before, and even added the extra one-button rubbishy mode to help those who can't shut up about it.
It's annoying, but what the hey.

No release yet, it's nearly ready, but still so far away!
Not to worry, it's Platdude's month, so let's carry on.
By the end of this month there'll be a PC version, and a Linux version, too.
That's hopefully apparent by now.

That's the last time I did a Mailbag post!
Blinkin' eck!
Over the past 6/7 months, I've occasionally dipped into the mailbag and plucked out little snippets, but I figured it was about time I did a proper one.

<a href="https://socoder.net/uploads/1/bmaxtesting_game.png"><img src="https://socoder.net/uploads/1/bmaxtesting_game_thumb.png"></a>
.. I have actually but a heck of a lot of work into the framework, so far!
Take a peek inside to find out some nice nuggets of info, and take a look at the future of AGameAWeek!!

2010 Framework
2nd November 2009
Blimey, that got complex!
<a href="https://socoder.net/uploads/1/blockmansGreatBigMenu.png"><img src="https://socoder.net/uploads/1/blockmansGreatBigMenu_thumb.png"></a>
Starting with "World 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, 4-1, 5-1" I built a set of sideways Arcade menu start points.
Then I added the old "J/K" gameplay options in the style of World 10-1 and World 25-1.. Although from 6-1 and after, the theme isn't predetermined, and it's just picking random themes each time!

Prepare for disappointment!
This week's been a bit of a disaster, really.
I started with Arcade Slots, and actually managed to get quite far into it, but eventually realised there wasn't anything new to add to the mix. So that got scrapped.
After that came a brand new Blockman graphic style, which was far too angled, and resulted in the maze being completely obscured. No good!

If you're currently coping with a bad bout of depression, it's probably not a great idea to download this week's AGameAWeek game, because.. quite frankly.. it sucks!
As I type this, the game currently consists of a badly drawn dog, a badly drawn bit of grass, and a few badly drawn birds.
I've hit a dead end as far as this game goes.
I also hit a dead end with Arcade Slots, and I even hit a major blockage with Blockman Gets More.

I got the basic slot machine reels working.
A couple of nice functions. 1 to fill them up, 1 to draw them.
Nudges work, Holds work.
Everything vaguely important works..

It's been a long while since I played inside the Arcade Slots source.

Idea : invent a new gambling/casino game
A few years ago (2004!!) I created Kasino Green. It was supposed to sit alongside StringyThings (a nice collection of Word games), and be a similarly nice collection of Casino games.

Another nice subtle title for Google to pick up, along with the odd sprinkles of text within.
Last time we posted LG Cookie KP500 Java J2ME Free Games to Download *cough* we had the following 3 games.
#1. Hangman
#2. Slots

Is that title subtle enough for Google, d'you think?
This week, I've been getting to grips with MidletPascal, and dodging it's annoying mid-compile crashes, in a vague attempt to get some games onto my phone.
Sorry folks, this week's AGameAWeek is entirely Java based.

My cookie work's kicking off, now. With a fully working keyboard, and sprites flying around the screen, I'm ready to start building games.

I've a few games in mind and am hoping to get some work done during the week.
But what does that mean for AGameAWeek?

Imagine if all your favourite Arcade games were in fact Slot Machine games.
Arcade Slots reproduces a handful of games in this style. With games ranging from Frogger to Hogan's Alley, there's plenty to keep your playing.

6 nice little games, all running happily on your DS.
There might be more releases in the future that I forget to add to this page, so keep your eye elsewhere on my site, just incase!

#1 - JNKPlat

JNKPlat, the DS edition was a souped up version of the classic JNKPlat games. It features "Amazing" animated graphics!
